Listen to tales at a storytelling festival

Enjoy a tale or two at St Helens Library Service’s Storytelling Festival this February half term. They have teamed up with Citadel Arts to deliver a fantastic programme of events to keep the kids entertained over the school holidays. Showcasing the very best theatre for children and families – here what’s on:

  • Monday, February 17 at 1pm at Eccleston Library: The Whirlybird by Eco Drama tells the tale of two birds sitting in a cosy nest as they get ready for their maiden flight.

    Featuring movement, music, bird song and puppetry for aged three to seven.

  • Wednesday, February 19 at 10.30am and 2pm at Parr Library: Exceptional storyteller Gav Cross will deliver tales we all know and love – but with a twist. Twisted Tales for Terrible Children will be told in a giant pop-up story cave and is suitable for children aged seven years and over.
  • Thursday, February 20 at 1pm at Newton-le-Willows Library: Beastly Belle follows the story of young heroine, Belle, who is plucked from a life of poverty by Merill, a greedy film producer who sweeps her off her feet and into fame and fortune in the movies. Caught up in the glitz and glamour Belle forgets her roots and is ensnared by a world obsessed with good looks – but looks aren’t everything, right? The show is suitable for children aged four and over.

If you want to get the kids outdoors then head to WWT Martin Mere but don’t forget to bring your wellies. There will plenty of splashtastic fun to be had including wet and wild walk through the mucky meadow to the middle maze lodge; bounce over the wobbly wet bridge into the wet woods; tip-toe along the reedy ramble towards giant sculptures; and splodge down a maze of secret wetland tracks. Then at 2pm every day throughout February half term, you will get to compete in the Puddle Jumping Championships.
