Car driver rescued by firefighters after crash involving HGV on M6

A CAR driver was taken to hospital after a crash involving a HGV on the M6. The man was rescued from his car by firefighters who administered first aid to him before paramedics arrived. The collision happened near the slip road on the northbound carriageway between junctions 19 and 20 at around 5.40pm last night.

Both vehicles were on the hard shoulder when emergency crews arrived. Firefighters fended off traffic in the first lane and hard shoulder of the motorway and assessed the drivers of both vehicles. The driver of the HGV was not injured.

Firefighters got the man who had been driving the car out of the vehicle and handed him over to paramedics. The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance. Firefighters made the car safe before handing the incident over to Highways England.

The first lane of the motorway was closed whilst the incident was being dealt with.

Firefighters were at the scene for around an hour.
