Cornwall Pride to visit 18 locations this weekend, including Falmouth and Helston

CORNWALL Pride will be celebrated with a difference this weekend, in what organisers are calling ‘the only online Pride on tour in the world’. Those behind it say it was born from the idea that Pride “should come to you, especially in one of the most rural places in the UK”. A spokesperson for Cornwall Pride said: “In the midst of this pandemic all our communities have gone through so much, it’s time to focus our ability to be together.

“Pride is there to bring everyone together, through the locations and representations of everyone right here in Cornwall. “We are following guidelines, we are social distancing, we are washing our hands and we are when required wearing face masks, but we are streaming live from 18 different towns across Cornwall online across YouTube, Facebook and other platforms to your home Sunday, June 21, from 5.30pm. “This has not been seen anywhere in the world and no one has ever attempted this type of project for Pride!

So, this year we are doing it and doing it now with this extra Cornish twist.” That will include Cornwall Fire & Rescue – ‘the Pride Responders’ – taking their Phoenix fire truck to each location to present Cornwall Pride Unleashed across the whole of Cornwall. Layla Zee Susan Drag Queen and the Chair of Cornwall Pride will be hosting from each location. The local talent involved will include Dusk at Dawn’s, Polly Jones, Company B, Megan Elizabeth, Ciaran Rutherfurd, Sammy Shepherd, Perrin Hooper, Kiera Chard, James Shead, Stone Roots, Ali Hoswell, Tom Cary, Kernow Bedroom Choir and Molly Hocking. There will also be community speakers and interviews from all over Cornwall.

The locations are Falmouth, Helston, Porthleven, Truro, Redruth, Camborne, Hayle, St Ives, Penzance, Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Launceston, Callington, Saltash, Liskeard, Lostwithiel and St Austell. The ambitious event has been made possible thanks to JJA Productions, Pirate FM, Chaos Group, ICG Creative, Newquay Town Council, Newquay Bid, Impact Light & Sound and many more to bring you Cornwall Pride Unleashed. Cornwall Pride aims to build a support network for the LGBTQ+ and wider communities throughout Cornwall.

Further updates will be given on the event page on Facebook.
