Highway heroes help drive the regional recovery

Delivering food on time Lloyds Transport and Warehousing is based in Tamworth, right in the heart of the UK’s Golden Triangle for logistics. The firm operates across the UK with more than 70 vehicles, including 50 articulated lorries.

Timely delivery of goods is particularly crucial for the Lloyds team. One of its key sectors is food and drink, where retailers have strict delivery time windows for hauliers. Delays of as little as half an hour can have a significant impact for the business.

Fast and reliable route through the Midlands The firm first opened a TAG account with M6toll in 2017 when it was operating from its previous headquarters in Sutton Coldfield. With long-term roadworks on both the M6 and M5, and timely delivery of its goods such a critical factor, the team at Lloyds knew that it needed a reliable route through this busy stretch of the Midlands.

After a free one-month trial of M6toll’s TAG, the M6toll commercial team developed a bespoke package for Lloyds’ fleet of 70 vehicles. Its drivers now use M6toll’s TAG on all routes to maximise the best use of driver hours and to ensure they can reach their destinations on time.  During the lockdown the Lloyd’s fleet has continued to use the M6toll, with drivers seeking to capitalise further on the efficiencies the road delivers on their regular routes.

Drivers are lockdown heroes Tim Jordan, business development executive at Lloyds Transport, said: “Throughout the lockdown the business has been largely unaffected. It’s a very unique and fortunate position to be in and has come as a result of the sectors we service and our incredible staff.

“Having food and drink as a core sector and meeting a surge in demand for our other client’s products at the start of lockdown, has enabled us to sustain output levels. Our drivers though have been the real heroes of the hour.  “When the lockdown was first announced, everyone in the business was thrust into a completely unfamiliar world in the space of 24 hours.

Our drivers immediately stepped up to the challenge with the attitude of ‘lets just crack on and get it done’. “They have kept that mindset throughout the lockdown weeks. We have had no one take time off and some have even postponed their holiday to help keep things going.

Reaching destinations on time “During the lockdown, we have continued to use the M6Toll road. It has served us well during the past three years and continues to do so.

“Timely deliveries are absolutely critical for us. Not only does it mean we fulfil our promises to our customers, but it’s important for our own business too. Some of our vehicles are double-manned, so any delays also have a knock-on, ripple effect for our drivers waiting for the truck.

“Reliability is just as important to us as a fast route and our drivers love the road. We know that it will get us to our destination on time.” “As regular users of the M6Toll road, we know first-hand how vital it can be in delivering business efficiencies.

We fully support the Get The Midlands Moving Again campaign and look forward to playing our part in driving the regional business recovery.”
