Two rushed to hospital after M1 collision between HGV and two cars closes carriageway

The M1 was closed this afternoon (Tuesday) after a road traffic collision between a lorry and two cars. Two people were taken to hospital after the incident which occurred at 1.40pm on the motorway. The incident closed the northbound carriageway junction 28 for Alfreton  and  junction 29 for Chesterfield.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said on Twitter that crews from Alfreton, Staveley and Chesterfield attended the collision at 1.40pm which took place between and HGV and two cars.

They stated that the fire service “worked to extricate 1 driver using hydraulic cutting gear”.

Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance and the scene was left in the hands of Derbyshire Police and Highways England at 4.05pm.

Road users were advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol and exit at J28 onto the A38 eastbound.
