Bored drivers trapped in M62 gridlock for four hours speak out
A video has captured the burnt out wreckage of a lorry that caught fire on the M62, causing hours of delays. It was shot by one of the motorists trapped on the closed motorway between junctions 21 (Milnrow) and 22 (Rishworth Moor) shortly after 11am today. Ben Morris, from Huddersfield, was on his way home when both carriageways were closed by police in both directions.
He was stopped around 100 metres behind the burning heavy goods vehicle – and remained trapped there for four hours. Ben got so bored he ended up playing a game of football with some of the other motorists – a kebab delivery man and a young family.

“We asked a fireman if we could play and he said yes as long as you as stay by your cars,” said Ben. Lanes were reopened before 4pm and Ben was allowed to carry on his journey.
He said: “Drivers were being asked one by one there destinations and told to go different routes.”
But Greater Manchester Police closed the eastbound carriageway shortly after 5pm again, to allow for debris clean-up.
There is currently delays on the eastbound side of around an hour and a half.
