All the 30s for Hull strongman taking on epic world record attempt

A Hull strongman has embarked on a world record to pull 30 trucks, 30 metres over 30 days. Ryan Linley, 29, of west Hull hopes to set a new title as well as raising money for charity whilst embarking on the massive challenge in September. He is already 10 days into the challenge and will be pulling lorries weighing between eight and 26 tonnes across the region and the country.

“This years charity was make a wish due to having friends that have been helped by the charity as well as it being a great cause, but sadly due to Covid-19 pandemic, most of the truck shows have been cancelled.

“I was being tagged in that 25 push-up 25 day challenge and thought it was boring for me, so I rang one of the guys who started truck mate UK and told him I had a plan. “He said I was crazy, it’s never been done before according to Guinness World Records, so I decided to go for it and it has been around a month in the planning.

“It’s 30 trucks, 30 days, 30 metres – so I’m pulling one truck per day across September and filming it.” But it has not been an easy start for Ryan, who pulled his hip just two days into the challenge, which he is completing in between shifts of working at Alpine Foods as a driver.

“On the second day, I was pulling the truck in the rain as I’m doing it whatever the weather, and I slipped on an oil patch and pulled my hip and shoulder, but could carry on with the help of a physio,” he said.

“I would have to lose a limb to stop doing this challenge. “During the pull zone, I’m just totally blinkered and then it is a sigh of relief when I’ve done it and another one down and then on to the next one. “It is also great that transport companies from Hull have offered their trucks and we are doing something different each day to make it interesting.

“On the last day of the challenge, September 30, Humberside Fire & Rescue are even getting involved and have offered up their 26 tonne fire engine for me to pull whilst firefighters are sat in it.

“I just want to help some poor kid on their death bed to have a nice day out and make some memories through fundraising for the Make A Wish Charity and if I can beat a world record at the same time, it would be great to leave that kind of legacy.”
