Family business opens global giant's first UK truck hydraulics store

A Yorkshire family business has announced a major expansion after signing a UK first deal with a global hydraulics specialist. BSP Hydraulics has partnered with Parker Hannifin to open the American Fortune 250 firm’s first UK truck hydraulics store. BSP, run by managing director Doug Conyers, will launch the UK’s first Parker Store Truck Hydraulics Centre on Thursday – 10 September.

Parker, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, employs more than 50,000 people worldwide. As part of the launch BSP is holding an open day at its premises in Normanton, near Wakefield. The new store will be officially opened by the Mayor of Wakefield Clr Charles Keith.

Conyers said: “It’s great to partner with a company which is a world leader in hydraulics and for Parker to put their trust in us is testament to the quality and experience we have in our team at BSP. “Parker have some of the best truck and mobile hydraulics products in the world and we are looking forward to showcasing them in the heart of the UK, backed by our first class sales and service engineers.” BSP was established in 1992 and Conyers’ wife Karen and daughters Rebecca and Eleanor also work in the business.

The company currently employs 14 people. The firm moved to new premises at Tuscany Court, Express Way, Normanton, in December 2019, paving the way for the latest expansion. BSP has invested GBP50,000 in a “one stop truck shop” providing truck parts, repairs and diagnostic services to help fleet managers and maintenance engineers keep trucks, agricultural vehicles and buses and coaches on the road.

A new store manager has also been recruited. Despite tough economic conditions caused by the pandemic, BSP remained open to provide a service to keep key sectors moving. Conyers said: “Some might think this is an unusual time to launch a new store but we are ready to go again and help the UK economy bounce back.

“Heavy duty trucks, buses and refuse vehicles all provide vital services to local communities and with many modern fleets under pressure to reduce emissions, cut downtime and increase profitability, it’s important that vehicles are professionally serviced and maintained. “Whether customers need a single part or a complex system we’re here to support them. Our diagnostic service can help spot problems that might lead to downtime and expensive repairs further down the line.”

Martyn Allen, Parker’s distribution manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “This is Parker’s first certified truck store in the UK and highlights the strength in Parker’s distribution network and its capabilities. “BSP’s specialist truck and mobile-related knowledge is reflected in its growing business success and a strong customer base. “We’ve worked extremely well with the team for many years and look forward to continued partnership success.”
