Oro-Medonte pickup truck driver accused of impaired driving in Blind River

BLIND RIVER – On Sept. 7, 2020 at 2:45 p.m., East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were stopped by a motorist stating a pick-up truck almost caused a head-on collision on Causley Street in Blind River. Police quickly located the pickup truck and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was spoken to who produced an expired driver’s license. Police learned the driver was also prohibited drive and there was a warrant out for his arrest.  While arresting the driver, a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected. The driver registered a fail on the approved screening device. Additional charges were laid and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Lee Lapointe, 32 years of age, from Oro-Medonte Township, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on Novv. 5, 2020.
