Terrified woman hears 'screaming' during armed brawl in Bradford

A woman has told of how she feared for her own life after she heard screaming in the street near where she works in Bradford. She heard a loud bang and then shouting and later learned that armed men had been involved in a fight in Peel Square, just off Lumb Lane on the edge of Bradford city centre. The woman, who did not want to be named, said she heard a crashing noise and then shouting.

She told YorkshireLive : "I heard screaming. It sounded like someone was getting hurt. I heard sirens and saw police cars when I looked out of the window.

It's quite scary. I was worried for my own life and the people that I support."

The woman was speaking after details emerged of an incident of violent disorder near where she was working on a night shift. Police were called at 10.09 last night to reports of an ongoing fight between a group of males armed with weapons at Peel Square.

There was damage caused to nearby vehicles during of the incident. Three men were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, none of which are life-threatening. Three men aged 22, 28 and 45, all from Bradford have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Today a police cordon remained as forensic officers gathered evidence and took photographs. Inside the cordon there was an AA recovery truck which was hooked up to a blue Audi. A police photographer was busy taking photos of the Audi.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "This was a serious incident in a public place in the city centre of Bradford.

Three men were injured as a result of the incident and there was also damage caused to cars in the area. "Our investigation continues to establish the circumstances of the incident and there will be a cordon in place for most of today which officers examine the area and also review CCTV. "High visibility patrols will be deployed to the surrounding area as reassurance for local residents."
