Three vehicle crash closes dual carriageway in Port Talbot for hours

A three-vehicle crash closed a dual carriageway in Neath Port Talbot for several hours. The collision happened on Afan Way – the A4241 – between Port Talbot and Aberavon shortly after 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 8.  Officers from South Wales Police were at the scene along with paramedics and fire crews from Port Talbot.

While fire crews left the scene at 5.50pm, police officers remained in attendance late on Tuesday night. South Wales Police confirmed at around 6pm that the road would remain closed for “some time”, but they did not confirm any further details about the nature of the crash or any injuries suffered by those involved. A spokesman for the force said: “Our officers are in attendance at an road traffic collision on Afan Way, Aberavon – the road will be closed for some time.

“Please seek alternative route – we will update when the road reopens. Thank you for your understanding and patience at this time.” A spokesman for the force later confirmed that they were dealing with a “serious incident”.

The eastbound stretch of the carriageway reopened at around 7.25pm, but the westbound side remained closed off late on Tuesday night.
