A13 Thurrock traffic: Chaos as overturned lorry to shut road near Lakeside 'for some time'

Drivers are facing major delays on the A13 in Thurrock with an overturned lorry expected to block the road “for some time”. The road has been closed heading westbound since 7.30am today (Sunday, October 4) after a lorry collided with a car and overturned, covering all three lanes. The incident happened between the A1012 (North Stifford) and the A126 ( Lakeside Shopping Centre turn off) and vehicles have been unable to move for more than two hours.

Emergency services remain at the scene near Grays, Essex, and police have now started turning vehicles around. Essex Police have also confirmed that the overturned lorry is likely to be there for some time. A spokesperson for the force said: “We were contacted just after 7.15am this morning, Sunday, October 4, with reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a lorry and a black Mercedes on the A13 at North Stifford just past its junction with the A1012.

“The lorry ended up on its side. “There are no serious injuries and officers on the scene are turning the traffic caught in the tailback around. “The lorry is likely to be there for some time.”

Earlier this morning, Highways England reported that drivers were facing 30-minute delays in the area and there are now queues of up to two miles.
