M3 closed for more than eight hours near M25 due to earlier lorry fire

Part of the M3 is closed near the M25 on Friday (October 23) due to an earlier lorry fire. Traffic and travel service Inrix reported the incident, which is affecting the northbound carriageway, at around 8.20am. The incident happened between Junction 2 for the M25 and Junction 1 for Sunbury and Staines. That section of the motorway has been closed since around 9.15am and remains shut at 5.30pm.

All traffic was held while the fire service brought the blaze under control which caused delays of around 60 minutes on top of usual travel times. Vehicle recovery and debris clearance is ongoing. Inrix says: “M3 northbound closed, queuing traffic due to lorry fire from J2 M25 to J1 A308 Staines Road East (Sunbury / Staines).

“Congestion to between J3 (Lightwater) and J2 (M25). The M25 is back to J10 A3 (Wisley Interchange) on the clockwise side, J13 A30 (Staines) anticlockwise.” SurreyLive will be providing the latest traffic and travel updates on the incident via the blog below.
