M62 closure: Emergency services on scene as huge lorry fire forces motorway to shut

Emergency services have rushed to the scene following a huge lorry fire on the M62 this evening (October 16). The motorway has been forced to close following the incident, close to junction 22. Images from the scene show the vehicle almost completely engulfed in flames, and traffic at a standstill behind it.

The eastbound carriageway is being affected by the blaze, near Ripponden. And the motorway has been closed between junctions 23 and 22. Roadworks are also affecting the westbound carriageway, which is shut between junctions 25 and 22.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and make alternative travel plans where possible. West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene There are currently diversions in place.

Drivers should follow follow the roadwork’s diversion to J24 then follow the solid square symbol to J22.
