Major Cheshire road closed after 'serious' crash between truck and car

A major road through Cheshire has been closed this morning after emergency services were called to a ‘serious’ crash between a truck and a car. Police and paramedics were dispatched to the A536 Macclesfield Road in Gawsworth, between Congleton and Macclesfield, following a collision at around 6.15am. One person has suffered serious injuries as a result and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.

The road will remain closed while resurfacing works are completed on the carriageway. A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 6.15am police were called to reports of a serious collision on the A536 Congleton Road in Gawsworth. “Officers attended the scene and on arrival they found there had been a collision between two vehicles, a truck and a car.

“One person sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident, they have been taken to the Royal Stoke hospital. “The road was closed as a result of the incident – and this closure will remain in place while planned resurfacing work takes place.”

Cheshire East Council’s highways team, who also assisted at the scene, have warned motorists to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with. A spokesman said: “The A536 Macclesfield Road is closed between Congleton and Macclesfield due to a serious road traffic collision.

“Our incident response team are working with Cheshire Police at the scene.

Please avoid the area.”
