Truck driver ticketed after crash into Onondaga Lake Parkway railroad bridge

A box truck driver who struck the railroad bridge on Onondaga Lake Parkway Friday morning has been ticketed, police said.

Kevin Cottman, 32, of Buffalo, was issued a ticket for failing to obey a traffic control device, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Cottman told police he was following directions on Google Maps when he struck the bridge, and didn’t see any of the warning signs on the parkway, according to the news release.

Cottman was driving a box-style truck heading south on the parkway when the vehicle hit the bridge, Sgt. Jon Seeber said. Cottman was driving the truck for Latina Boulevard Foods LLC, based in Buffalo, Seeber said.

The truck and bridge had minor damages after the collision, Seeber said.

No one was injured, he said.

Deputies closed the southbound lanes of the parkway temporarily to remove the truck.

They had to deflate the tires in order to free the truck, Seeber said.

The bridge’s height, posted in numerous areas on the parkway, is 10 feet, 9 inches.

The truck was 12 feet, 6 inches high, Seeber said.
