WATCH: Wakefield Road in Brighouse closed after 'serious' crash

A ROAD was closed by police after a “serious” crash this afternoon. The collision happened on Wakefield Road (A644), in Brighouse, near to its junction with Locksley Road. It was first reported at 2.28pm.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the crash involved a lorry and there were no reports of any injuries. They added that the lorry had blocked the road, which caused traffic issues. The road was closed from Locksley Road to Phoenix Street, with journeys taking ten minutes longer than usual, according to the AA.

The lorry looked to be made up of two separate vehicles that were attached together. The first part was in the middle of Wakefield Road, while the second vehicle’s load was twisted at an angle, blocking the rest of the road. An individual could be seen trying to sort something underneath the lorry, where the two vehicles were attached.

A police officer was diverting traffic down Locksley Road. Bus company, Yorkshire Tiger, posted on Twitter to give a service update following the crash. The post said: “Wakefield Road – Brighouse is closed by police due to a serious road traffic accident (RTA).

“The 262 service is having to terminate at the M62 roundabout.

“Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
