Did you see it? Alton Towers resort featured on TV show Top Gear tonight
Petrol heads got a glimpse of what it would be like to whizz around Alton Towers Resort when it featured on Top Gear tonight. Hosts Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris visited the North Staffordshire attraction during the first coronavirus lockdown earlier this year. While there they tested out the latest electric vehicles mimicking the twists, turns, and thrills of the popular theme park.
They put the Mini Electric, Honda E, and Vauxhall Corsa against each other to see which one would come out on top. Comedian and TV host McGuinness said: “Can you believe we’re in Alton Towers? We’ve got it to ourselves.”
Starting at the entrance the trio had to navigate through the roads and coasters before trying to get to the finish line near Nemesis avoiding dead ends on the way using just a visitors’ map to find the route. Having passed the Dark Forest the trio had to test the handling of the cars through tight chicanes as they hit the halfway point and into a rally stage.
Despite an early lead from McGuinness it was Flintoff in the electric Cora that navigated the way through the park quickest. Commenting on the experience, racing driver Harris said: “The problem with racing through a theme park with random dead ends is that the way isn’t always obvious even using the map.”

The popular trio also featured a segment on the future of the ice-cream van testing the monster truck versions of vehicles.

The iconic Crewe-made Amalfi driven by Flintoff managed to overcome the challenge from the monster van, in a circuit that saw the drivers delivering ice-creams to firefighters.
