Elderly man arrested for possession of hijacked truck with cargo of meat

It is believed the arrested man was recruited by the hijackers to deliver the meat.

Springs police arrested a 62-year-old man last Friday in Nuffield for possession of a hijacked truck.
According to information received, the truck aroused the suspicion of officers patrolling in a sector vehicle and they stopped the driver.
Upon checking the truck’s cargo, police found 250 animal carcasses. Also read: Conman arrested in Tsakani The driver was asked to provide documentation for the transportation of meat, which he failed to do.
Enquiries revealed the truck was reported hijacked and the meat was to be delivered to an address in Daggafontein.
The man was immediately arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station.
Further investigations revealed the truck was stolen between Springs and Devon by three hijackers who recruited the truck driver at the Tsakani Mall to deliver the meat.

Police are tracing other suspects.
Brig Thembeka Gwebushe, Springs Police station commander, applauded the members for apprehending the man.
She said good results are achieved when officers are focused while performing their duties.
