Four injured in lorry and car crash on A417 in Gloucester

Four people have been injured in a crash between a lorry and a car at a busy junction of the A417 in Gloucester. One woman had to be taken to hospital after being cut free from the wreckage of the car by firefighters in an incident which caused major traffic disruption in the Barnwood area of the city throughout the late morning and into lunchtime. The crash happened  near the Centre Seven in Barnwood at around 11.10am, with ambulance and police first at the scene.

They quickly called Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service when it became apparent that one of the occupants of the car couldn’t get out. Eyewitnesses at the scene told Gloucestershire Live there were four people in the car, and all were believed to be elderly.

Fire crews managed to extract the motorist from the car, and the road near the Premier Inn and Tenpin Gloucester remained closed at the scene for a couple of hours. A spokesperson for Gloucestershire police confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital with injuries which are ‘not thought to be life threatening’ and three others suffered suspected minor injuries.

In a statement soon after the incident, she said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a collision near the Centre Seven, Barnwood which happened around 11.10 today, 2 November. “Police were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a lorry and a car. Police remain at the scene.”

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said two crews from Gloucester South and Gloucester North fire stations were called to the scene, which was close to the Tenpin Gloucester venue on the Barnwood Link Road.

She confirmed they were called by paramedics at around 11.10am.

“We were called at 11.12am by the ambulance service to reports of a person trapped in a vehicle following a road traffic accident on the Barnwood Link Road,” she said.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service declined to provide any information about their paramedics’ involvement in the incident, and said they did not provide information about ‘non-major’ road traffic colliisions.
