Man arrested following Weymouth Relief Road crash

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of driving offences following a two-vehicle crash which shut a key Weymouth road. Police officers responded to the collision on the A354 Weymouth Relief Road after 8pm on Friday evening, October 30. The road was closed in both directions for nearly three hours between the Veasta Roundabout and Jurassic Roundabout as emergency services attended the scene.

Both drivers of the two-vehicles were taken to hospital for further medical treatment. A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said a male driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offences but has since been released under investigation. She said: “We received a report at 8.06pm on Friday, October 30 of a two-vehicle collision on the A354 between the Veasta roundabout and the Jurassic roundabout.

“The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital. There were no serious injuries reported. “A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offences.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue. “The road was closed to allow for emergency services to deal with the incident. It reopened at around 11pm.”

The crash caused heavy delays in the area and affected traffic between Weymouth and Dorchester.
