Appeal launched after devastating crash on Manchester Road, Blackrod

AN appeal has been launched after a devastating crash in Blackrod on Saturday night. Police were called just after 10.20pm to a report of a crash on Manchester Road. Emergency services attended and enquiries discovered that five cars had been involved in a collision.

Shocking images shared by police online showed a truck smashed into a wall and that a second mangled vehicle had mounted a kerb. A third vehicle was also captured on camera. It has not been revealed if any of the cars involved in the incident were stationary.

A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The teenager has since been released under investigation. Police now want to speak to anyone who saw a black Nissan Navara being driven in the area at the time. A police spokesman said: “Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or saw a black Nissan Navara being driven around the area at the time.

“Anyone with information or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact police on 0161 856 6108 quoting incident number 2,417 of January 2.

“Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
