Driver seriously injured in hospital after van flips in truck crash near M61

A van flipped on its side in a crash with a truck leaving a man hospitalised with serious injuries. Emergency services were called to the incident in Syndale Way, Westhoughton, at about 11.10am today (January 7). Police the vehicle overturned after being hit by a truck when the van stopped for a pedestrian.

The driver of the van suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, Snydale Way was shut northbound between the Chequerbent roundabout and junction 5 of the M61, reports the MEN. Pictures from the scene show the damage to the van, which was shunted on to the pavement due to the impact of the smash. The truck also sustained damage to its front end.

The truck driver has been reported by police for driving without due care and attention.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: “The van stopped due to a pedestrian. The truck however did not…. “Driver of the van sustained a serious head injury and is currently being treated at hospital.

“Driver of truck reported for due care. “Road down to 1 lane while we await recovery”. A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: “We received a call reporting a road traffic collision at 11.10am.
