Essex traffic and travel: Essex village grinds to a halt after lorry gets stuck on a bridge
An Essex village has been ground to a halt after a huge lorry became struck on a bridge this afternoon (Thursday, January 28). The lorry driver was caught out when the vehicle became completely rooted as it tried to navigate a small bridge in Finchingfield, Essex, a small village between Braintree and Saffron Walden. The calamity has caused The Causeway to be shut in both directions.
Essex Travel News tweeted: “Finchingfield – B1053 The Causeway – BLOCKED in both directions near the Fox Inn Public House as a lorry has got stuck on the small bridge.” The bridge is the only road route over the Finchingfield Brook. This means that its closure has essentially cut the village in two.
If any resident wants to drive from one side to the other, they must now take a five-mile diversion, through the nearby villages of Great Bardfield and Bridge End.
Motorists should delay any journeys that aren’t absolutely necessary, and allow time for the lorry to be removed.
