Firefighters called after dump truck blaze at Walleys Quarry

Firefighters have been called to Walleys Quarry after a dump truck caught fire at the site. Crews from Newcastle and Hanley attended the scene at the landfill off Cemetery Road, Silverdale, following reports of a vehicle fire at around 11.47am. The fire caused a large plume of smoke to billow into the sky above the site.

No-one was hurt in the incident and the blaze was extinguished by 12.35pm. A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “Fire fighters were called to Walleys Quarry, in Cemetery Road, Silverdale, at 11.47am on Thursday following reports of a vehicle fire.

“Crews from Newcastle and Hanley attended and found a dumpster truck on fire. “No casualties were reported and the fire was extinguished by 12.35pm.”

Walleys Quarry has been the subject of hundreds of complaints from residents living nearby about the ‘horrendous’ smell emanating from the site.
