HGV driver caught using their mobile phone on the A50

A HGV driver has been caught by police using their mobile phone while driving on the A50 this afternoon. The motorist was spotted by officers as their unmarked police car passed the lorry on the A50. A Staffordshire Police Road Policing Unit spokesman said: “Unbelievable!!

Whilst passing this HGV on the A50 we noticed the driver had the mobile phone up to his ear in his right hand!! “Duly stopped and reported to court. Points and a fine impending.”

Elsewhere on the A38 officers stopped a vehicle driving at 90mph. A Staffordshire Police Road Policing Unit spokesman said: “This vehicle was stopped in the East Staffordshire area for travelling at excess speed on the A38.

“Driver will be expecting the gift of points from us.” Also in East Staffordshire a man has been arrested for suspected drug-driving.

A Staffordshire Police Road Policing Unit spokesman said: “In the East Staffordshire area, sadly a young lad has made a poor decision that will possibly remain with him for the rest of his life in the form of a criminal conviction for drug driving.

“Male arrested and if over the limit faces disqualification.

It’s not worth it!”
