Lorry flips in crash blocking key Barrow-in-Furness road
A key Barrow road has been blocked due to a lorry overturning in a crash. The lorry has flipped underneath the railway bridge on Roose Road in Barrow-in-Furness. The incident has happened between Salthouse Road and Vulcan Road, and traffic in both directions is affected as a result.
Pictures from the scene show the lorry on its side underneath the bridge with police in attendance. Cumbria Constabulary officers are at the scene and are asking motorists to avoid the area. A police vehicle can be seen in the middle of the road, which was initially closed.
Traffic is now being directed around the vehicle. Recovery has been requested to the scene and traffic in the area is heavy as a result. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Roose Road, Barrow-in-Furness: A wagon has overturned under the railway bridge and is blocking the road.
“Please find alternative routes until the vehicle can be recovered.”
A spokesperson for travel website AA said: “Partially blocked and heavy traffic due to rolled over truck on A5087 Roose Road both ways between Salthouse Road and Vulcan Road.
“The lorry is stuck underneath the railway bridge, where the road was initially closed however is now being directed around the vehicle.”
