Main road in Hinckley closed after lorry smashes into railway bridge

A main road in Hinckley has been closed both ways after an articulated lorry crashed into a railway bridge. The HGV smashed into the bridge on Rugby Road, at around 10.30am. A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “We were called shortly after 10.30am to a report a lorry had collided with a bridge in Rugby Road, Hinckley.

“Officers remain at the scene to assist with traffic management.

“Both Network Rail and British Transport Police have been informed. “No injuries have been reported.” The road has been closed between the Hansom Cab roundabout and the Hawley Road junction.

Drivers coming into Hinckley from the M69 are advised to use the A5 and Coventry Road.

All other vehicle are being diverted down Southfields Road and Brookside.

Network Rail has been asked for comment.
