Man dies in horrific car crash on the A5

A man has died following a crash near Lichfield last night. Officers were called at 7:45pm to report of a road traffic collision on the A5 at Hints between the Weeford Interchange and Tamworth. The collision involved a white Mercedes sprinter van that collided with a silver Ford Focus around a mile-and-a-half after the Weeford Interchange.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived, they found an occupant of the car in a critical condition. “Staff worked quickly to administer advanced trauma care to the patient, but sadly despite their best efforts nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.” “A second patient was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene.”

The man, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are currently being offered support from specialist officers at this difficult time. An investigation is underway and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
