Police arrest three suspected illegal immigrants after HGV driver heard voices from back of lorry

Police arrested three suspected illegal immigrants after an HGV driver heard voices coming from the back of his lorry in Leicestershire. The three men were detained after the driver called the police while he was parked up on an industrial estate in Lutterworth Road, Dunton Bassett, near Lutterworth, on Tuesday. The men, who are aged 22, 23 and 25 and believed to be from Iran, were arrested by Leicestershire Police.

The officers the handed the trio over to the UK Immigration Services.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “At around 6.30am on Tuesday 23 February officers received a report from the driver of a lorry parked at an industrial estate on Lutterworth Road near Dunton Bassett. “The driver reported that people could be heard in the rear of the lorry. “Officers attended and a 22-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, all of no fixed address, were arrested and handed to the immigration service.”

Three suspected illegal entrants to the UK were found in a HGV trailer by police.

A member of the Leicestershire Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) tweeted about the arrest. The tweet said: “The RPU day shift tipped out twenty minutes early this morning and had 3 prisoners by 7am.
