Woman suffers serious injuries after crash between car and HGV
A woman has been seriously injured after a collision between a car and a lorry. Emergency services were called to the collision involving a Volvo HGV and a Vauxhall Corsa on the A596, Micklethwaite. The incident happened at around 8.40am today (February 23).
Cumbria Police said the driver of the Corsa, a local woman in her 50s, sustained ‘serious injuries’. She was airlifted to Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle for treatment. The driver of the Volvo, a man in his sixties, was uninjured.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information. A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision on the A596, Micklethwaite at 8:40am today (23 February). “Police were contacted to a report of a two vehicle collision involving a Volvo HGV and a Vauxhall Corsa.
“The driver of the Corsa, a local woman in her fifties, has sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle. “The driver of the Volvo, a man in his sixties, was uninjured. “Along with officers, NWAS and the fire service are also in attendance.”
