Two men arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault after HGV driver attacked on M1 slip road

Two men have been arrested in relation to an attack on a lorry driver who was taken to hospital after being attacked at a set of traffic lights on a motorway slip road. One man aged 25 and one aged 34 have been detained on suspicion of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The HGV driver was assaulted after he got out of his cab on a slip road at Junction 22 of the southbound M1 near Markfield and Coalville at about 5.50pm on Monday.

He was taken to hospital but discharged later. A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Two men, aged 25 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated ABH. “They have been released under investigation.

“Our enquiries into the incident continue.”
