Children, 4 and 10, die in crash as police arrest woman over dangerous driving

A four-year-old and a 10-year-old have tragically died in a crash on the M1 near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle when above the prescribed limit of alcohol following the late night crash involving a truck on Monday, police say. Thames Valley Police officers are appealing for witnesses after the 11.10pm collision involving two vehicles left two children dead, reports Buckinghamshire Live

The force said the fatal collision took place on the northbound carriageway between junctions 14 and 15, near Milton Keynes. The two vehicles involved were a white Vauxhall Astra and a Scania HGV, police added.

And the two children who died were passengers in the Astra, officers confirmed. Another child in the Astra and the driver were taken to hospital with injuries but have since been discharged.

A 35-year-old woman, from Derby, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle when above the prescribed limit of alcohol and remains in custody, police said. The lorry driver was not hurt in the crash, which led to the motorway being shut to traffic throughout the night and into Tuesday morning. Sergeant Dominic Mahon, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Bicester, said: “My thoughts remain with the family of the two children who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this collision or anyone who may have dash-cam footage that may have captured what happened or either of the vehicles prior to the collision to please get in touch.
