A six-year-old girl and her smuggler driver bound for the United States border were killed in northeast Mexico on Saturday after their pickup truck overturned.

Mariana Magaly Hernandez Aguilar and the motorist were declared dead by cops and paramedics who rushed to the scene of the accident in the Nuevo Leon municipality of Galena, local media outlets reported.

Mexican news digital outlet Al Dia reported that the driver, a Mexican national whose name has not been released, drove around a pothole before he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Nine other migrants on the truck were injured, including the girl’s pregnant mother, a spokesperson with the Galeana Civil Protection told DailyMail.com on Monday.

Two were identified as Joseel Hernandez Dera, 27, of El Salvador, and Nemias Alexander Vamos Garcia, 28, of Honduras. A third migrant, whose identity was not revealed, was found injured at the site of the crash.

All three were taken to Saltillo General Hospital in Saltillo, Nuevo Leon. The official said that Hernandez Dera was treated for chest and back pains. Vamos Garcia was diagnosed with a fracture in the pelvic area and laceration to the skull.

At least six other migrants abandoned the scene of the crash before authorities arrived and made it to an area clinic on their own. 

It is unknown if Hernandez Aguilar and Hernandez Dera were related.

DailyMail.com reached out to the National Institute of Migration for comment.

The Galeana Civil Protection spokesperson said that the migrants were on their way to driven to Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

Once there, the group was expected to cross over the United States-Mexico international border.

The deadly crash comes almost two weeks after a smuggler and 10 migrants were killed and 20 others were injured after a passenger van crashed on a highway in Encino, Texas, on August 4.

The driver had picked up the migrants at a stash house in McAllen, Texas, and was heading to the Dallas, Texas, when he lost control of the large vehicle as he neared a curve and plowed into a utility pole on Highway 281.
