She said: “I told my children that when they lie, a star appears on their forehead that only a grown-up can see. So anytime they are lying to me, they cover their forehead.” Her video has gone viral with 20 million views, millions of likes and thousands of comments.

Other shared their own parenting white lies, as they debated the usefulness of the method and opinions were divided and the comments were varied with some parents sharing their own hacks, reports the Mirror. One parent said: “My mum used to tell me when the ice cream truck is playing music it means they’re out of ice cream.” Another added: “I told my kids that our car doesn’t drive when they don’t have the seatbelt on.”

One tip for promoting healthy eating read: “I told my son that when I cook vegetables I only use recipes Spider-Man gave me. He eats everything on his plate now.” One critical parent commented that “giving your kids paranoia for the rest of their life is so useful to you in the moment, such a momboss move”.

Another said: “I get that this helps in the short run, but it also seems like lazy parenting.” In response to the critiques, mum Victoria wrote: “Please watch my other videos explaining how I use this. Definitely not lazy parenting.

It is a lot more involved than a 20-second TikTok.”
