Surprisingly high-paid jobs in UK including £53,000 salaries for lorry drivers

Waitrose is currently hiring lorry drivers with a salary of up to GBP53,780 in one of the most surprising high-paid jobs available in the UK. The supermarket’s offering puts lorry drivers on a better wage than secondary school teachers (GBP40,880), solicitors (GBP43,190) and architects (GBP42,930), reports The Times. The position at Waitrose promises “a vast range of benefits and a healthy work-life balance” with perks including discounted holidays and access to a private members club.

Tesco and Iceland have also bumped up salaries by up to 25 per cent, with sign up bonuses of at least GBP1,000.

M&S also has a joining incentive of GBP2,000. James Clifford, boss of HGTVtraining.co.uk, said new recruits could make up to GBP60,000 a year. It comes as retailers continue to struggle against a shortfall of around 100,000 HGV drivers, with the issue being caused by a combination of coronavirus lockdowns and post-EU Brexit rules.
