Drivers facing 2-hour waits as lorry driver is left with serious injuries

A lorry driver has been left with ‘serious injuries’ after crashing into a bridge on the M6. Drivers are stuck in the gridlock of two hours with no plans for the road to reopen soon. The collision happened between Junction 17 at Sandbach and 18 for Sproston Green.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene at around 8am this morning. Police, ambulances, an air ambulance and six fire engines are reportedly working at the road. Traffic was further delayed by a broken down car between junction 16 and 17 on the same side of the road.

Bridge inspections by officers are also causing delays to traffic heading Southbound.

Some trains have also been cancelled as a result of the crash.
