Gloucestershire people officially choose county’s best burger

You really can’t beat a good burger. There’s nothing quite like a succulent patty sandwiched between a shiny, plump brioche bun as the utmost comforting meal. Gloucestershire has dozens of burger-based restaurants scattered across the region, leaving customers spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing which menu to try next.

We asked our readers to tell us who they thought deserved the top spot as ‘best burger’ in all of Gloucestershire – a prestigious accolade to behold. Honourable mentions also go to the runners up, Bear Grills at the Longlevens Rugby Club and The BBQ Society, both situated in Gloucester. Speaking to GloucestershireLive, The Ground and Round owner, Terry Beaver, said: “Thank you to everyone who voted and to all who have eaten with us so far, it’s really appreciated. “If you’d like to come and try our locally sourced homemade burgers and loaded fries you can find us at The Bayshill garden 5-9pm Tuesday to Saturday.”

He champions locally sourced ingredients which forms the key to his success, with an evolving menu that caters to meat-eaters and those on a plant-based diet.

This win for the Ground and Round reflects a growing customer appetite for ‘posh burgers’, moving away from traditional fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Burger King and towards more extravagant flavour combinations. And Terry’s menu is certainly lavish, with voters salivating over his legendary bone marrow-infused patties handmade with local beef. One reader commended the “excellent produce, perfectly grilled and served with a local smile” with top quality ingredients stacked high in the burger bun.

He elevates the classic cheeseburger to new heights with his homemade sauces, served with double mature cheddar cheese, beef tomato, crisp iceberg lettuce and gherkins in between a brioche bun. Absolute perfection.

Terry also regularly features hints of flavour from across the globe with his Korean and vegan Buffalo burgers, although it’s best advised to follow his Facebook page to ensure you keep up-to-date with his weekly specials. You can choose from rosemary-salted or loaded fries as an accompaniment to your burger, which voters consistently praised the Ground and Round’s sizeable portions and affordable prices. To have already received such an overwhelmingly positive response from his customers in less than six months of business is an outstanding achievement for Terry.

The Ground and Round will be closed temporarily until September 20 as Terry has recently married and will be taking a short break for his honeymoon. He hopes both customers old and new will come to say hello when he returns to his usual spot later this month. You can find The Ground and Round at The Bayshill, 85 St Georges Place, Cheltenham every week between Tuesday and Saturday from 5pm until 9pm.

A takeaway option is available if prearranged for collection only.
