Lorry driver dies following fatal M6 collision
A person is believed to have suffered ‘serious injuries’ in a crash on the M6. Traffic has been stopped on the Northbound carriageway after a lorry mounted the grass verge. Traffic officers have closed the stretch between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 18 for Holmes Chapel.

“Shortly after 8am on Tuesday 7 September police were called to reports of a collision on the M6. “The incident on the northbound carriageway near to Sandbach involves an HGV which has collided with a bridge. “One person is believed to have sustained serious injuries.
“As a result of the incident the carriageway is currently closed northbound between junctions 17 (Sandbach) and 18 (Middlewich). “The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours. “Local diversion are place but there are long delays and members of the public are advised to avoid the area if possible.
“Updates will be provided when available.” An Inrix spokesperson said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, a lorry involved on M6 Northbound between J17 A534 Old Mill Road (Sandbach / Crewe) and J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel). Congestion to just before Sandbach Services.
“Lanes one, two and three (of four) were closed until around 08:35 when traffic was stopped after a lorry has gone up the grass verge where there are debris across the road.
Services are located between J16 and 17.”
