Movers and shakers: A round-up of appointments from across Staffordshire
Alpha Manufacturing has welcomed Michael Whitfield to the business as commercial manager. The Hixon-based firm has appointed Michael to the role to support its growth and drive the company forward. In his new role, Michael – who worked for JCB for 15 years – will work alongside commercial director, Robin Eley and technical sales engineer, Corey Hammond, to build relationships with new and existing customers.
Michael said: “As someone who is passionate about the engineering and manufacturing industry, I’ve been following the evolution of Alpha Manufacturing, and the whole Bri-Stor Group for a long time, and have always been impressed.
Something that really stands out is the way Alpha values its staff, and has such strong relationships with its customers. “I have no doubt Alpha has an exciting future ahead as it continues to grow and I look forward to being part of that journey.” : 100 new welding jobs up for grabs at JCB as demand continues to soar
Tyre giant Michelin has appointed Conor Twomey as communications director for the UK and Ireland. The role encompasses press and public relations, social media, events and internal communications across the UK and the Republic of Ireland and covers the entire Michelin brand portfolio, including car, motorcycle, bicycle, truck, bus, agriculture and construction tyres, the world-renowned Michelin Guide as well as Michelin’s growing interests in sustainable industries such as hydrogen power and high-tech materials. Conor brings more than 20 years’ experience, both in journalism and in public relations, to his new role at Michelin, having worked for numerous media outlets in Ireland and the US before beginning a new career in public relations in 2010 and relocating to the UK in 2013.
Since then he was worked in PR for Jaguar, FIAT, Alfa Romeo and, most recently Mitsubishi, where he also oversaw social media, events, internal communications, partnerships and government affairs.
Chris Smith, managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “As Michelin evolves to meet the changing needs of consumers and make environmental protection a core focus, having an experienced communicator such as Conor on board is really going to help us get those messages to as wide an audience as possible. His interest in all things mechanical means he will instinctively know which of Michelin’s many interests to spotlight in as engaging a way as possible.” Conor added: “It’s such an exciting time to be joining Michelin.
The brand is very much looking to the future with a strong emphasis on sustainability and growth with, around and beyond tyres. “I have a wonderful team of people to work with, there is so much in the pipeline and I get to indulge my interests in all things mechanical, from bikes to quarry trucks to hydrogen-powered Le Mans race cars.”
Sheet metal specialist KMF has appointed Ashley Mulby as business development manager. In his new role, Ashley – who joined the Newcastle-under-Lyme business from Heamar in Congleton – will support the group’s ongoing growth plans and will take responsibility for finding new customers, developing existing relationships and increasing sales.
He will spend his first month on the shop floor to truly understand KMF’s products and processes and build relationships with his colleagues.
Ashley said: “KMF is a well-known company locally and I had really wanted to work here. I have a background working within their industries and I also completed an apprenticeship in CNC machining, so my knowledge of the sector is great which really helps with my day-to-day role. “I want to grow with the company and help to grow it too.
The amount of people here who are celebrating more than 25 years is brilliant.” Managing director Gareth Higgins added: “We’re really pleased to welcome Ashley to KMF. He’s made a great impression so far and we’re thrilled to see him working on the shop floor to fully understand the business.
“We appreciate that dedication and initiative and look forward to what he can bring to the business.”

Anthony Bunn and Clare Maughan
Managing director Jonathan Cornes said: “We know that the pandemic has affected everybody both in and out of the world of business, and as a company JCA has worked diligently on ensuring that we have been able to offer the same level of professional surveying service and support as we have always done, but with an enhanced focus on safety and risk assessment.
“We are delighted to welcome Anthony on board to the JCA team, who has excellent networking, content and marketing skills and will look to creatively spearhead our search for even more new business, whilst Clare has fitted into the company from day one and has worked superbly during the four years that she has been here – she hugely deserves her promotion, and we welcome her input, expertise, and enthusiasm as a director at JCA.”
