Rag’n’Bone Man stars at The Cambridge Club Festival
With festivals back open once again it’s important to make your first one back a big one. That’s why The Cambridge Club Festival is pulling out all the stops to ensure that you can finish the summer with a bang. Taking place from Friday 10 to Sunday 12, September the festival will be held at a new site of the ancient Childerley Orchard, a short drive outside of Cambridge and just over an hour by train from London.
Starting off in 2017 this year’s festival follows suit with a stellar musical line-up but there will also be an artisan market, a podcast and comedy area, a family and children’s area as well as plenty of street food and drink stalls. Festival Managing Director William Young said: “This festival has been two years in the making, and we are more excited than ever to share the magical experience that is the hallmark of The Cambridge Club. “We are back bigger and better, ready to welcome our core fans and new audiences to a spectacular new venue with stellar artists, a diverse non-musical entertainment offering, and a brand-new theme that reflects our rootedness within the Cambridgeshire community.
“After a long period of uncertainty for everyone in the industry, this is a chance for us to get back to doing what we do best – creating an incredible space for visitors to dance, disco, and discover.”
Tell me about the music
Despite the fact that The Cambridge Club Festival has expanded with so much to discover over the weekend, there are plenty of great acts taking to the stage this September. With three Brit Awards to his name Rag’n’Bone Man will be gracing the main stage on the Friday night. The ‘Human’ singer will be performing a range of his neo-blues & soul hits that are sure to get the crowd going.

Queen of British soul Beverley Knight and The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club will also be performing on the Friday with plenty of nostalgic tracks to dance the night away.
The Saturday features the likes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Trevor Nelson, Horse Meat Disco and electro DJ star Greg Wilson performing hit after hit, ensuring that you won’t be leaving the dancefloor. For something a bit more relaxing acoustic singer-songwriter, Jack Savoretti will be captivating the crowd with his soothing tones. Rounding up the festival Soul II Soul, Shalamar and DJ Sarah Cox will be bringing the sounds of the ’80s as the perfect way to end the weekend.
What is there for families?
This year The Cambridge Club Festival has plenty for the whole family to enjoy at the Imagination Station.
With children’s games and activities, there will be lots of entertainment on offer including an array of CBBC music stars on the Magic Star Children’s Stage. Hosted by children’s presenter Maddie Moate, the likes of YolanDa Brown’s Band Jam, the critically acclaimed CBeebies show and children’s band Andy & The Odds Socks will be performing.

For more active children then Elissa Gold Events will be teaching circus skills, skateboarding and starting a theatre troupe. There will also be fairground rides and crazy golf for everyone to enjoy.
What else is there to explore?
No matter what your interests are there is something for everyone at this year’s festival.
If you are wanting to expand your culinary horizons then there will be a wide variety of food and drink stalls across the site. From Fired Up Pizza to street food vendors there will even be a chance to visit the MOB Kitchen truck serving up special delicacies over the weekend. To quench festival-goers thirst the likes of Cambridge Wine will also be setting up shop.
For something a bit different the Explorer’s Emporium is well worth a visit. Home to a range of artisan traders from across Cambridge and East Anglia visitors can experience everything from glassmakers to cheesecake creators. Fans of photography can also rejoice as the Cambridge Exhibition will give avid shutterbugs the chance to be part of The Cambridge Club’s retrospective on the city.
The celebratory exhibition will feature twenty local photographers and artists who have been inspired by the city.
There’s even a podcast and comedy area
New for this year the Auditorium of Intrigue will play host to a range of hilarious comics and podcasters over the three days. Food critic Jay Rayner will be recording his Out To Lunch podcast featuring a very special guest talking you through culinary adventures, witty chat and plenty of cracking anecdotes. If anecdotes are your thing then Countdown’s own Susie Dent will also be recording her Something Rhymes with Purple podcast.
Inviting audience members to come along and participate you can expect to enjoy some laughs as well as enhance your vocabulary.
There are plenty of acts over the weekend
It wouldn’t be right to host a festival in Cambridge and not make use of the talent from the university. Student drama and comedy society, The Cambridge Footlights has had such alumni as Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Olivia Coleman and Sue Perkins pass through its ranks and will be performing a range of original material over the weekend.
Can I camp?
There are plenty of camping and glamping options at The Cambridge Club Festival for groups, couples, singles and families without the worry of having to bring your own tent. Each site has its own pre-pitched tents which can only be booked online.
Created by event camping experts Tangerine Fields, the Field of Dreams campsite is ideal for anyone wanting to dance the night away and then relax in comfort. Without the need to set up a cheap pop-up tent each fully equipped and spacious tent can fit up to eight people. With packages available which include airbeds and sleeping bags, there is also a choice of luxurious tents such as the Arabian Bedouin Tent or the Cosy Cubes and Cards.
With two sizes of Bell Tents, there are also Geo Domes and Kyrgyz Yurts available with plenty of space and furnishings to relax in. Within the glamping campsite, there are also hot showers and luxury loos. Tickets are available with weekend tickets covering entry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including a return shuttle bus to/from the site. Day tickets and VIP options are also available.
Families can book a discounted ticket to cover two adults and 2-3 children.
