Severe delays on M6 near Wigan after crane crashed into bridge
Traffic is queuing for seven miles after a crane crashed into a bridge on the M6. The collision happened on the southbound carriageway, near junction 22 (Newton-le-Willows) just before 6.30am. There are delays all the way to junction 26 (Orrell Interchange), with delays estimated to be around 90 minutes.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: " A hire truck with a crane crashed between j23 and j22 southbound of the M6 around 6.25am today." There has also been a crash on the A580 East Lancashire Road, near Moorside Road, Swinton. Two lanes are blocked and traffic is queuing.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) tweeted: "#A580 #MoorsideRoad two lanes are blocked due to a collision "This is causing additional delays, combined with traffic diverting due to ongoing incidents on the #M6
"Vantage bus services may also be delayed "Plan ahead, allow extra travel time."
