A Welsh market stall that sells homemade Chinese and Korean food has won the title of Champion Streetfood at The British Street Food Awards. Janet’s Authentic Northern Chinese, which is found in Pontypridd Market, took home the top prize at the Hull event, where traders from across the UK competed across the weekend. Loved in Ponty for her Korean honey chicken, baos and dim sum, Janet took her Korean Chinese specialities up north and served up her honey chicken as well as Korean kimchi and pork bao.

Other Welsh Street Food winners

Winners from the Welsh heat, Keralan Karavan, came third in the People’s Choice Award and won Best Sandwich with their Bombay tikka taco, while steak-specialists, Fire and Flank took the Best Main Dish category with their flank steak with cheesy garlic mash, topped with chimichurri and served with creamed spinach. Also taking home a title was JOL’s, who won Best Looking Food Truck for their recognisable big yellow van, which serves fresh fish and crab rolls, burgers and breakfasts down at Ogmore-By-Sea.

: How a Welsh burger restaurant in the middle of nowhere attracted customers from across the UK Janet, who moved to Pontypridd with her husband Huw, opened her stall in the market back in June 2019.

Before that she had traveled the world working for an airline and luxury hotels, where she picked up cooking influences and skills which she used to expand on the traditional Chinese Korean dishes she was already expert at.
