Driver in hospital after lorry overturned on busy road

The driver of a lorry that overturned during rush hour was taken to hospital following the incident. Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Service all rushed to Rimrose Road in Bootle following reports a lorry had overturned. Once emergency services arrived they found a large wagon on its side covering one lane of traffic.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told the ECHO: “Firefighters are in attendance at a road traffic collision on Rimrose Road, Bootle.

An overturned lorry is causing delays on a major commuter route.

“Crews were alerted at 3.39pm and on scene at 3.42pm.

Two fire engines are in attendance. “On arrival crews found one LGV had overturned and was on its side. The driver of the vehicle was out when firefighters arrived.

“Firefighters remain on scene and are liaising with police and paramedics as to whether any further action from them is needed.” The North West Ambulance Service confirmed a man was taken to hospital following the incident.

Merseyside Police tweeted: “Police are currently at the scene of an overturned lorry near the junction of Rimrose Road and Byron Street in Bootle, please avoid the area and find an alternative route.” Traffic was extremely disrupted due to the crash, with drivers travelling between Bootle and Liverpool being advised to avoid the area.

Traffic was at a stand still going towards the city with vehicles being diverted down Knowsley Road.

The road still remains closed while recovery trucks work to remove the lorry and it’s shed load from the scene.
