Huge fire as food hut goes up in flames with one person injured

A fire broke out at a food hut in Oldham this morning, leaving one person injured. Firefighters were called to the blaze at a food truck on Havelock Street just after 4.20am this morning. The M.E.N understands the food truck involved was Uncle’s Tea Hut, based at Kaly’s Playland.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.23am this morning. Two fire engines from Oldham and Hollins attended Havelock Street in Oldham.

“Crews used two hose reels, one breathing apparatus and breaking-in gear to extinguish the fire. “One casualty was checked over by firefighters. “We were there for about two hours and 15 minutes.”

The M.E.N understands that Uncle’s Tea Hut was targeted by arsonists in February this year when the business was based as its old site on Alexandra Retail Park.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for information.
