Photos show firefighters tackling lorry engulfed in flames

Firefighters attended the scene after a lorry caught fire on the A428 westbound near Girton in Cambridgeshire this morning (October 21). The HGV was engulfed in flames on the side of the main road, as traffic passed by. The driver safely exited the vehicle but emergency services attended the scene to deal with the fire.

There were no injuries reported but at this moment it is unclear what caused the incident. : Traffic & Travel news from CambridgeshireLive At approximately 10:50am, the A428 was closed from the A14 Junction 31 to Madingley A1303 in both directions, leading to queuing traffic.

Diversions are in place – via the A14 and A1 past Huntingdon and St Neots – as emergency services continue to deal with the incident. A spokesperson from Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “We were called at about 10:30am today (October 21) with reports of a lorry on fire on the A428. “Emergency services are at the scene.

No injuries reported but the road is likely to remain closed for some time while the fire is extinguished and the vehicle recovered.”
