Crash on Severn Bridge between lorry and car stops traffic

Traffic has been stopped on the Severn Bridge in both directions following a crash involving a car and the lorry, with the latter getting stuck on the central reservation. The incident happened between Junctions 2 and 1 on the M48 eastbound with Avon and Somerset Police and traffic officers on the scene. Junction 2 is the A466 Wye Valley Link Road turn-off for Chepstow and Junction 1 is the A403 turn-off for Aust.

The official National Highways: South-West Twitter account @HighwaysSWEST reported on the road traffic collision in a 5.17am post this morning. It read: ” #M48 bridge J2 #Chepstow to J1 # Aust we currently have traffic stopped in both directions due to a road traffic accident. @ASPolice and our traffic officers are on scene and dealing.”

The Inrix traffic data website posted the following message at 5.31am: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, a lorry and a car involved on M48 Severn Bridge in both directions from J2 A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow) to J1 A403 ( Aust ). All traffic has been stopped – camera images show the lorry stuck on the central reservation.”
