Retired HGV driver dies after Royal Stoke hernia op
Retired HGV driver Alan Harvey died after undergoing a hernia operation. The 65-year-old, who had a number of health conditions, passed away at the Royal Stoke University Hospital on December 2. An inquest into his death has heard Mr Harvey, of Birks Street, Stoke, went to A&E with abdominal pains and nausea on November 15.
Headlines from Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Investigations revealed a hernia and an emergency repair was completed. However, after surgery, Mr Harvey’s condition deteriorated and he passed away despite the best efforts of medics.
Emma Serrano, area coroner for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire, said: “Mr Harvey had many co-morbidities when he came into hospital. Without an operation he would have passed away. What has followed from the procedure are recognised complications.”
Ms Serrano concluded that Mr Harvey died from complications following necessary surgery. Not signed up to the newsletter? Try it outhere
