Infamous Hants Come Dine With Me episode that saw a massive strop
Some television shows are just timeless. Friends can often be found being replayed on UK television 18 years after its final episode, Top Gear reruns featuring Clarkson, May and Hammond dominate Dave and Dion Dublin can often be seen walking up the stairs on old BBC Homes Under the Hammer episodes. But is there any TV channel in the world that loves a daytime rerun as much as Channel 4 and its sister channels?
: ‘Visit to one-star hygiene rated Petersfield cafe left me angry with myself’ From A Place in The Sun to Grand Designs, Location, Location, Location to Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA, dozens of much loved shows are repeated during the week. Possibly the most popular of all of these shows is Come Dine With Me.
Running since January 2005, the show has been running for 45 series as contestants take to the kitchen and host a dinner party and battle it out for GBP1,000 in cash. Down the years there has been many famous episodes and moments – I mean who can forget that bloke who put the whole whisk in his mouth or Pete Marsh’s “You have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on” outburst after fellow contestant Jane won.

However, what many people don’t know however is that one of the most famous Come Dine With Me episodes featuring an iconic contestant was filmed in Hampshire. In 2014, Heather Horsfall, Toby Pullen, Zaira Sheikh and James Littleworth battled it out for the prize money in Basingstoke. The Mirror reports that at the beginning of the episode, ‘lady of leisure’ Heather admitted: “I can upset people because I’m honest but I will try and bite my tongue.”
Well, it didn’t take long for her to upset fellow contestant and DJ Zaira, who cooked for the group first. Serving traditional Indian food, all was going well until Heather refused to take even one bite of her pudding. The division between the two women was picked up on by fellow contestant Toby, who told viewers “they don’t get on”.
The second evening started well until Heather took a Zaira joke literally. As the conversation turned to what you would do given a choice of superpower, Zaira chose invisibility and jokingly mentioned she would rob a bank. It was however when Heather was hosting that she became even more agitated after Zaira found a hair in her food.
Unable to just accept the discovery, Heather demanded: “I want to see it!” “Is it my hair? What sort of hair is it?
I’m very sorry if you’ve got a hair of it.” Back in the kitchen, she told the camera that she was suspecting Zaira would try to sabotage her evening. She said: “I knew she was going to do something because I said about the prawn – the vein in the prawn.
She doesn’t like me, I don’t care if she likes me or not.” Following the hair situation, Zaira scored her just a four out of ten, which would ultimately see her finish in last place. Having the honour of telling people the results after a tension-fuelled week, Heather blew up.
“I don’t believe this, I really don’t,” she said while unveiling the scroll. “You put me fourth. No seriously, I think you’ve all given me a low score and I’m really sad about that.
You’ve really peeved me off actually. “My food was better than any of yours – seriously I am so shocked you gave me what you did. My presentation was amazing and a lot better than any of yours.
“And I came fourth! I am so upset with you all of, I could’ve given you a zero because yours was s**t,” she shouted, pointing in Zaira’s face.

“Sorry, I’m going to bed, forget it, that is so sad,” she added as she stormed out of the room and sulked off to bed. Stunned at what had just happened, Toby said: “I don’t know what to say to that,” to which Zaira added: “I’m speechless.”
Heather did however return and finished reading out the competition places as Zaira came third, Toby second and James won the GBP1,000.
