Easter traffic chaos sees M25 gridlocked in 26-mile queues

Traffic is queuing as far as 26 miles on the M25 in Surrey. Motorists are suffering long delays as a result of congestion on the motorway. Queues are stretching on the M25 Clockwise from Junction 9 in Leatherhead all the way to Junction 16 with the M40 in Buckinghamshire.

Drivers face delays of up to an hour-and-a-half as a result of the congestion. The delays are causing traffic chaos ahead of the Easter bank holiday, as many Brits travel for a getaway during the school holidays. There are no reported crashes or accidents on the affected stretch of road.

: M25 truck fire puts motorway at a standstill as traffic queues from Staines back to Heathrow Inrix, the traffic data company, first reported the delays at around 11.06am today (Thursday, April 14). The congestion has persisted throughout most of the day.

As of 2.24pm, Inrix reported 26 miles of queues: “Queueing traffic for 26 miles and traffic heavier than normal on M25 clockwise between J9 A243 ( Leatherhead ) and J16 M40 J1A. Travel time is around 1 hour 20 minutes.” The worst of the congestion appears to be between Junctions 13 and 14 near Heathrow Airport.
